Writing about the plot of the epic novel is an adventurous undertaking. There are epic chances not to fit into a limited number of lines. Therefore, let's describe "War and Peace" like physicists, not poets. After all, physicists are concise... even when they talk about the Universe. So, Kutuzov and Napoleon are two magnetic poles. Let the individual lines of force in the space between them be the characters of the novel. There are 569 of them. This number includes all classes of society, all ages, and characters; the author analyzes their gestures, facial expressions, and even thoughts. And let us agree to consider the overall magnetic field as the people, or depending on its manifestation in the novel, the crowd.
