The Eighth Detective

All murder stories follow rules — at least, there is a victim, a detective, and a suspect.
Thirty years ago, mathematics professor Grant McAllister figured out these rules and wrote seven wonderful detective stories. But that was a long time ago, as Grant now lives as a recluse on a Mediterranean island, counting the remnants of his days. 
Suddenly, like a jack-in-the-box, Julia Hart, an ambitious editor, appears in Grant's life, passionately wanting to republish those very detective stories. Now the writer, who hides from his past, and the editor, eager to understand him, must work hand in hand. Only in Grant's stories are there many inconsistencies — or perhaps clues that will lead to a new, eighth mystery?
