Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860-1904) is a Russian writer and playwright known worldwide.The future writer was born in Taganrog into a merchant family and helped his father in his shop from a young age. He started writing during his student years - in 1880, a story and a humorous piece by him were published in the magazine "Strekoza". In 1890, A. P. Chekhov went to Sakhalin - the island of tsarist hard labor and exile - to study the history and life of the convicts. In 1896, the writer completed work on the play "Uncle Vanya," which revolutionized the drama of that time. In total, over 25 years of creativity, A. P. Chekhov created more than 300 different works, many of which have become classics of world literature.
The basis for the plot of the story "Kashtanka" (1887) was the story that happened to the trainer Vladimir Durov. He found Kashtanka and told A. P. Chekhov about her. The author seems to look at the world through her eyes, feeling her fears, joys, and seeing her dreams. According to the writer, there are no bounds to a dog's loyalty and devotion - Kashtanka, performing in the circus, runs to her former owner, whom she lost at the beginning of the story. And even though he sometimes fed her poorly, yelled at her, she still loved him and missed him.
