Therefore, when Doctor Valid invited me to examine the body of a murder victim, I immediately recognized the melody playing in the morgue — the jazz standard "Body and Soul." It was coming from the corpse... Accountant Sires Wilkinson, a part-time saxophonist, passed away just after the concert. The death was cruel and supernatural — it left its mysterious mark on the body. And although Wilkinson was far from the first victim, no one would have allowed me to exhume bodies for musical expertise. So I began the investigation with my usual methods.
