Yuri Pavlovich Kazakov (1927–1982) – a master of the short story, one of the best Russian writers of the 20th century, whose books have been translated into many languages of the world. Kazakov cannot be categorized into any literary movements of the Soviet era or any ideological frameworks. His creative life seemed to exist outside of time and simultaneously within Russian history. To readers, his stories appear calm and almost plotless, but they are about the most important aspects of human life – understanding oneself and one's place in the world.
