The wonderful fairy tale by Alexei Nikolaevich Tolstoy "The Golden Key, or The Adventures of Buratino" (1936) was created as an attempt to adapt the story of the wooden puppet Pinocchio for the little Russian reader, told by the Italian... writer Carlo Collodi. However, in the process of literary processing, Tolstoy gradually departs from the original plot and transforms the "bland" moralistic story of the late 19th century into an engaging narrative about the mischievous boy Buratino, the evil Karabas Barabas, and the golden key, filled with extraordinary adventures, mischief, and fun. The book features a series of colored illustrations for "The Adventures of Buratino," created by the famous St. Petersburg artist Latif Kazbekov.
