First published in 1877, «Buddhism» by the English oriental scholar and Buddhist specialist Thomas William Rhys Davids (1843–1922) is a popular account of the fundamentals of Buddhism with numerous references to primary sources. This book has been republished several times in the late 19th century and still retains its popularity among those interested in Buddhism and Eastern religions. The book discusses the life of the Buddha, his teachings and legends about him, Buddhist morality, the organization and everyday life of Buddhist monks, as well as the spread of Buddhism.
