Ramayana. The Tale of Lord Rama

This book is a short retelling of the great ancient Indian epic «Ramayana». It is a reissue of the book «RAMAYANA, ANCIENT INDIAN EPIC, ADAPTED FOR YOUTH BY M. Chistyakov» (1908) in modern spelling.
«Ramayana» is an outstanding work of Ancient India, written in the 7th-4th centuries B.C. in Sanskrit in poetic form. It tells the story of the love between Rama and Sita — incarnations of Vishnu and his wife Lakshmi. Rama is portrayed as a man of dignity and righteousness, while Sita is depicted as an ideal of female purity. She follows her husband into exile, where she is abducted by Ravana, the king of the rakshasas and ruler of Lanka. Rama, aided by allies, rescues her from captivity by killing Ravana. Later, she gives birth to Rama's heirs — Kusha and Lava.
The epic touches upon the themes of the meaning of human existence and dharma. The poem contains the teachings of ancient Indian sages, presented through allegorical narrative combined with the exposition of moral and philosophical ideas.
