Memories of Life. Vol. 2. Novgorod Region: Studies, Work, Family

Classes began in November. I remember, I crawled out of the car at night at the Borovenka station, which the "Leningrad-Moscow" trains passed without even noting its existence with a simple "whistle of the locomotive". Sleepy "academics" crawled out of other cars as well. Of course, no one was there to meet us. We gathered in a bunch. We knew it was about eight kilometers from the station to the school. No transportation, so we had to march on foot. Thankfully, most of us had little more than what we carried on ourselves. Only a few had a simple homemade suitcase or the usual soldier's backpack. As always in such cases, there were those in the "crowd" who knew or thought they knew where to go and how to get there. Thus began my exciting and hopeful journey "under the wing" of the party, rich in events: from the interview at the Central Committee of the Komsomol in someone else's jacket to sitting on the dormitory bed with the future head of the Communist Party of Germany. Working with outstanding mentors, I sought to gain new knowledge and benefit the country.
