The Insulted and Injured

The collection includes three works by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky: his first published novel "Poor Folk," the intended subsequent story "The Double," and the novel "The Insulted and Injured," written after many years of exile. In these works, the influence of... the "natural school" is strong, with realistic descriptions of the social underclass and characters who embody grand ideas. Dostoevsky writes a fundamentally new prose for his time; in his early works, one can trace the influence of Western realism, with important social issues, helplessness in the face of fate, and acute psychological insight coming to the forefront.
