Pastorship

Pastorship was the substance of the life of Archbishop Anthony, and he generously shared his many years of experience in conversations, sermons, personal discussions, and teachings. Metropolitan Philaret (Vakhromeev), whose preface opens the book, rightly called him a wise mentor and shepherd-soul caretaker during the burial of Metropolitan Anthony. The book you hold in your hands is intended not only for clergy: Archbishop Anthony said that the flock should know about pastorship no less than the shepherds. This especially applies to the section dedicated to confession: how often do people recognize and repent that they do not know how to confess! The texts of Metropolitan Anthony do not provide ready recipes for all situations in life but allow one to partake in the spirit of the departed archpastor — the spirit of love, service, and self-sacrificing care, which he learned from the Chief Shepherd Christ.
