Everything in this book is pedagogically useful and artistically beautiful.
Firstly, a dynamic and educational plot about a somewhat foolish rooster, who three times fell for the fox's tricks and ended up in her clutches. It's good that reliable friends, the cat and the thrush, always rescued him from trouble.
Secondly, the magnificent Russian language and clear, understandable narration of all the dramatic events of the tale, executed by Alexei Nikolaevich Tolstoy, a versatile writer and the most talented storyteller of fairy tales.
Thirdly, the brilliant, one-of-a-kind illustrations by the animal artist Evgeny Mikhailovich Rachyov. Rachyov's animals fully retain their natural plasticity. But thanks to the fact that they are all dressed in Russian national costumes, walk and sit like humans, and have a variety of expressions on their faces, it is easy to guess the hints of human characters and relationships within them. For example, the fox: it's immediately clear - so affectionate, but don’t expect kindness from her - a brazen deceiver, a sly one.
