List of Unimaginable Fears

New York, 1900s. The life of ten-year-old Essie O’Neil is turned upside down overnight: a few years after her father's death, her mother remarries. Not only is Essie's stepfather German, and thus a stranger, but he also works as the chief physician at a quarantine hospital. They send incurably ill patients there to isolate them from society. Tuberculosis, smallpox, typhoid fever, cholera — just the names of these diseases make her tremble, and Essie will have to live next to the hospital and be at risk of getting sick and dying every day. As if she didn't have enough fears to add to her list to be less afraid!

Upon arriving in her new home, a huge and gloomy mansion, Essie learns that nurses have disappeared from the hospital and the police are investigating. Is her reclusive and taciturn stepfather involved in these mysterious disappearances? Essie starts her own investigation, but to uncover the truth, she will have to remember her painful past and face her fears.
