Dead Souls

The poem "Dead Souls" is one of the greatest works of Russian literature, a broad panorama of Russian life at the beginning of the 19th century. The main character, Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov, pretending to be a landowner, tries to get rich by any means, even illegal ones. The vivid images created by Gogol are relevant not only for the era contemporary to him: the Manilovs, Nozdrevs, Plyushkins, Sobakeviches, and of course Chichikovs are not difficult to encounter in our time.
