Jumping off a cliff into the abyss, Carlos survived. He returns to Mexico to find out if this incredible leap was real. The author attempts to lead a new group of sorcerers. So far, he is not doing very well. All the disciples periodically experience strange memories of events that did not occur and could not have occurred in the world of ordinary perception. Conflicts between Castaneda and the other disciples are escalating. And suddenly, with the help of La Gorda, the new Nagual remembers that due to the special structure of his energy body—a glowing cocoon—he cannot be their leader. Their paths diverge. Only La Gorda stays with him. They leave together for Los Angeles, where they engage in joint journeys in dreams and, in a state of heightened awareness, try to remember everything that happened to them during their years of apprenticeship.
