The novels in the series "The Adventures of Langdon St. Ives" describe the adventures of a scientist-aristocrat in an "alternative" Victorian England. The collection includes the fourth, fifth, and sixth novels of the cycle.

Inventor-aristocrat Langdon St. Ives and his friends decide to explore the unknown expanses, unaware that they are up against a cold-blooded genius of evil, before whom the demonic Doctor Narbondo will seem like a mere child! On the side of the psychopathic murderer stands the entire criminal world of the British capital, deadly inventions of the vivisector Pivi, and even vampire fungi. Murders and abductions of innocent people follow one after another... Will St. Ives manage to avoid the sad fate that awaits him and restore peace and tranquility on the streets of London?..

An innocent trip to the London opera turns into a deadly dangerous rafting experience on barrels down the Thames, while a stroll through the wastelands to Neolithic structures becomes a swim under a waterfall falling from a cloudless sky and a balloon journey through a hole in space-time. It is no surprise that any event involving St. Ives turns into a phantasmagoria, even if he is merely trying to understand the reasons for the pollution of the river or helping his wife Alice sort out documents. One thing is certain: any enemy will be defeated sooner or later, and justice will prevail.
