Rebecca was born on a farm in a large and very poor family. She was raised by her mother's older sisters. Rebecca was a kind and capable girl, but her absent-mindedness and thoughtless actions horrified Aunt Miranda. But people saw Rebecca's kindness and responsiveness and loved her, and eventually even Aunt Miranda had to admit that she had grown into a good person.
