The Gambler

Alexei Ivanovich, a simple private tutor, lives with... the family of an elderly general in a luxurious hotel at the German resort of Roulettenburg. While all the gentlemen await the death of the wealthy Russian aunt of the general to inherit her fortune, the main character becomes entangled in torturous love affairs, based only on pride and calculation. He desperately tests his fate and luck at the roulette table. After all, «money is everything!» — or is it not? The book is printed on good white paper.
