All the homeless people you see on the street were once domestic individuals. They drank tea in the mornings, went to school and work, took vacations every summer, went to bed in a clean bed, and were confident about tomorrow....
And then something broke. In every story, this "break" is unique: employer fraud, cruel parents, ungrateful children, or greedy relatives. Some manage to cope with such hardships, but some do not—and they end up on the street. The graphic report "Street People" is one of the few attempts to debunk the myth of homelessness as another dimension, where there is us—goal-oriented, smart, strong—and there are them—lazy and spineless. The candid stories of homeless Sasha, Anya, Denis, and many others will not leave anyone indifferent and will return a human face, even for a moment, to those we have learned to overlook. The valuable advice from volunteers
will suggest what can be done if you want to help.
Irina Kravtsova, serving as a special correspondent for the online publication Meduza (according to contemporary Russian law, the mention of the Meduza online publication should be accompanied by a note that it "has the status of a foreign agent"), has repeatedly addressed this complex topic. Now—together with illustrator Albina Shaikhutdinova. Together they created an extremely sharp and unconventional graphic
report on the lives of homeless people. "Street People" was shortlisted for the Moscow International Comics Festival "KomMission" in 2021.
"KompasGuid" continues to raise socially significant topics and talk about what concerns many modern people. Now—in an unusual format of a graphic report.
