Konstantin Alekseevich Korovin was an outstanding Russian artist at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. In art, Korovin occupies a special place. A recognized master of painting, a brilliant scenographer, he is also known as an extraordinary writer and a talented author of memoir essays.
In 1922, Konstantin Korovin moved abroad and longed for his homeland for the rest of his life. The circumstances turned out unfavorable for him - his eyesight catastrophically worsened - and the master decided to leave visual art and take up his pen.
The presented collection includes memories of Russia: the author talks about his love for nature, encounters with his famous contemporaries and simply interesting people, old Moscow with its life and morals, life in the rural wilderness where friends - lovers of hunting and fishing - gathered, and reflects on art and his own creativity: The essays, written in a bright, vivid language, are full of genuine humor, beneath which lies a true philosophy of life. Korovin himself spoke of his literary creativity like this: "I write by inspiration, as if for some non-existent friends. I write out of love for people, not ideologically, not teaching anyone, but as an artist."
