Denis Ivanovich Fonvizin (1745-1792) is considered the creator of Russian domestic comedy. It can be said that «The Minor» and «The Brigadier» mark the beginning of the «golden age» of Russian literature. The author ridicules social vices characteristic of the nobility, contrasting them with true and eternal moral values: honesty, labor, intellect, patriotism. The comedies are distinguished by bright characters and subtle humor, and many quotes have become winged expressions.
