Poor People. A Novel

«Poor People» — the first novel by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821–1881), which brought the author great fame. This is a novel about the sufferings of those who cannot break free from their semi-poverty existence and are forced to struggle for a crust of bread, while nature has endowed them with abilities and inner kindness. Life is cruel and unfair to them, it does not give the heroes the slightest chance for happiness. Their wealth is only in their souls. Written in the epistolary genre, the novel shows us the life of the «little man», his experiences and thoughts, moods and intentions. It presents readers with a lesson in compassion and mercy.
