The Normans in Sicily

The essay dedicated to the history of emigrants from Scandinavian countries in the Mediterranean first saw the light in 1889. The author, a famous German poet and cultural historian, provided a vivid characterization of the Viking era, the routes by which the northerners reached continental Europe, the Mediterranean, and North America. You will also find a detailed chronology of the era, starting from the first raids on coastal lands and ending with colonization and the organization of stable political formations that merged into the structures of the medieval European world.
The main part of the work consists of a narrative about the descendants of the northerners who settled in France, in honor of whom the Duchy of Normandy was named, and then moved to Sicily, where they established their state.
