Forms and Patterns of Nature

Stop and look around. Perhaps you will see a little ladybug that, spreading its wings, flies from a dandelion leaf to a nearby garden where heart-shaped strawberries are ripening.
And what is this? A snail is crawling on the prickly cover of a hedgehog, pulling its spiral shell closer to the strawberry. These are just some of the many forms that nature has given to every plant, animal, and mineral. The Earth's surface, subsoil, and even the dark, deep waters of the seas abound with curves, dots, stripes, spots, swirls of spirals, and complex patterns. Even the tiniest of them have a place in nature and a purpose. Camouflage patterns allow animals to blend in with their environment, while more conspicuous colors help them during mating games or serve to intimidate predators.
