Atlantic City, 1934. Esther and Joseph Adler rent out their house to vacationers while they move into a small apartment above their bakery, where their two daughters were raised. The eldest, Fanny, is going through a difficult pregnancy, while the... youngest, Florence, is preparing to swim across the English Channel. At the same time, a mysterious emigrant from Nazi Germany, Anna, is living with the family. An unfortunate accident involving Florence draws the Adlers into a web of secrets and lies - and the family members agree that Florence... will swim forever.
