The History of the Russian State

The History of the Russian State – a significant historical work, a piece that became a major phenomenon in Russian artistic prose.

Its author, the outstanding Russian writer, historian, and publicist Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin 1766–1826. In 1803, by the decree of Emperor Alexander I, Karamzin was appointed to the position of historiographer and devoted the rest of his life to writing The History of the Russian State, which became the main work of his life and a whole phenomenon in Russian history.
