About the author Sumerlikova Olga Nikolaevna graduated from the historical faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1997, majoring in art history, specializing in Japanese medieval decorative applied painting, namely in the paintings of screens, fans, and scrolls on the... plot of the world-famous novel The Tale of Genji from the Heian period 794-1185 – a work truly unmatched in world literature. In 2000, she obtained a second higher education with honors in the specialty of Regional Studies Specialist. Translator of the Japanese language at the Department of Japanese Philology of the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Lomonosov Moscow State University. After graduation, she worked as a custodian of the Eastern Graphics Fund at the Department of Prints and Drawings of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. Today, the name of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai is known, perhaps, throughout the world. Hokusai is one of the leading masters of color woodblock printing of the Edo period Tokugawa 1603–1868 and one of the most famous artists of Japan in the world. He is well known in Europe, Russia, much is written about him, his works are researched and studied, and his exhibitions are regularly held in various countries, documentaries about his work are made. Hokusai was one of those masters from whom the discovery of Japanese art as an independent artistic world began, one of the first to become famous in the West. Hokusai's legacy is immense. He lived a long life, nearly 90 years, and during this time created a vast number of works. These include easel prints, book illustrations, painted scrolls and screens, and monumental murals. To date, there are around thirty thousand items of his works. Each new researcher and new era reveal previously unknown, different, and resonant facets of creativity in his art. This mini-album, equipped with a large number of colorful illustrations, tells about the life and creativity of the great Japanese artist and introduces his works.
