They have never met, but destiny brought them together. Japan is waiting for the appearance of a comet that passes by Earth once every thousand years. In a small town far in the mountains lives and longs the high school girl Mitsuha. Her father, the mayor of the town, is running an election campaign, and in the family Shinto shrine, she has to publicly perform ancient rituals. And she dreams of moving from her cramped provincial world to the big city. One day she has a dream in which she turns into a boy. An unfamiliar room, unfamiliar friends, and before her eyes - the streets of Tokyo.
