Spring 1779. The adventurer Cagliostro arrives in Petersburg to play with the feelings of gullible audiences, showcase spectacular tricks disguised as miracles, and
profit from it. The intrigues of the adventurer involve Prince Golitsyn, a person from the inner circle of Catherine II. The false magic makes a strong impression on him, as it does on many aristocrats — for example, the relatives of Prince Potemkin. There is a danger that even the heir to the throne — Pavel Petrovich — will fall under Cagliostro's influence, so the adventurer must be exposed before it is too late.
