On Humanism and Morality in Education and Upbringing. L.Tolstoy

Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy (1828–1910) is better known as a writer than as an educator. Meanwhile, Tolstoy's educational legacy is not only extensive but also valuable. Despite the overwhelming technological progress and focus on the future, humanity needs constant nourishment of the educational process with ideas developed by great humanists of the past.

This collection includes Tolstoy's works from different years dedicated to pedagogy, especially its humanistic and moral components: the philosophical-pedagogical treatise “On Life,” which was banned and destroyed immediately after publication, a description of the experience of the Yasnaya Polyana school, theoretical and methodological articles, letters. In these works, everything is infused with love for humanity and a sense of respect for the child. They are filled with care for the welfare of the younger generation and thoughts about the future happiness of humanity.
