Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) – a genius of the Renaissance era. His contemporaries valued him as a talented painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, inventor, and musician. Scientific research and discoveries by Leonardo became known and published much later. Their systematic study... began only in the second half of the 19th century and became truly an international affair.
This publication is based on the manuscripts of Leonardo da Vinci, dedicated to his great inventions and thoughts on physics and mathematics, astronomy and geology, botany and anatomy. In this book, you will find materials that have not been published for a long time, illustrated with numerous drawings by the author himself.
In Russia and abroad, one of the greatest researchers of the natural science works of Leonardo da Vinci is rightly considered V. P. Zubov (1900-1963) – an outstanding Russian scientist, philosopher, historian of science and architecture. He was the first to translate Leonardo's natural science works into Russian, systematize the fragmentary notes from his diaries, scattered across museums and private collections in different countries, and accompanied them with comments, bibliography, and an introductory article.
