Images of Italy

Pavel Pavlovich Muratov (1881 – 1950) – writer, historian, curator of the department of fine arts and classical antiquities of the Rumiantsev Museum, a subtle connoisseur of European culture. The writer worked on the book «Images of Italy» for many years, until 1924 when the final edition was published in Berlin. Since then, new generations of readers have discovered Muratov's Italy: "not a tragic or sentimental theater, not a memoir book, not a source of exotic sensations, but the native home of our soul".
.The illustrative series in this edition consists of works by St. Petersburg artist Nadia Kuznetsova, who works at the intersection of two techniques – photography and graphics. In her works, the special light, the «Italian dust», which to this day saturates the air of the country that was a spiritual homeland for Pavel Muratov, is wonderfully conveyed.
