What is the difference?

Let's start with what they do not have: the game has, above all, retained its unique parodic humor and graphic design, general concept, and most mechanics, such as flushing or indecencies from monsters. However, the game now features a real dungeon, made of a mosaic composite field of rooms that come randomly each time - thus, each game will differ greatly from the previous ones due to the unique dungeon, which still has many doors waiting to be opened. One important innovation is that monsters move along with players, so now not only can you attack them, but they can also attack you at the most inappropriate moments! Additionally, all munchkins now have a health reserve and movement points, so running through all rooms in one turn won't be possible. An important rule change concerns the victory conditions - it's not enough just to reach level 10, you must also defeat the Guardian at the dungeon exit.

All of this, of course, has increased the volume of rules, but both those familiar with the game and those trying the series for the first time will need just one game session to fully master this magnificent game.

A bit about the original game

The game «Munchkin» is a localization of the tabletop card game Munchkin. In Russian, the game, no matter how you try, acquires a new sound but remains exciting, dynamic, and malicious. Role-playing banter over simple yet sometimes intentionally ambiguous rules mocks noble elves, wise wizards, brave warriors, and bushy-haired halflings. Clerics battle undead, thieves cut down their opponents in the heat of battle, giant Calmadzillas and disgusting Face-Suckers seek to poison or take the heroic lives of your munchkins, but all this is done in a laid-back manner, without long speeches and numerous throws of various dice accepted in D&D, GURPS, and other role-playing systems.

So what is «Munchkin»?

The board game "Munchkin" is a role-playing game in form, a parody in content. The players' munchkins walk through the dungeon, expose the monstrous inhabitants to the light of day, and either regret it or gain new levels and treasures for their victories. The outcome of each such adventure (battle, for short) depends on what the player has brought into the fight. A player's level and bonuses/penalties from gear, class, race, and curses constitute their preparation for battle. For the monster, it’s their level plus enhancement cards and one-time gear. Where do monsters get their gear? Envious opponents can also join the battle: they can help the monster and weaken you. Therefore, although you can play "Munchkin" with just two, gather more people for the match: there will be more curses, enhancers, and potions that can easily alter the balance of power in battle in any direction, and vigilant envious players won’t allow any of you to emerge as the sole leader in the race to the 10th victory level.

Who would you recommend this true hit to?

When created, this board game was aimed at a youth audience familiar with role-playing games. However, "Munchkin" can be played at any age, except for the very young age, where some of Steve Jackson's jokes might seem overly salty. Thus, a fantasy adventure featuring courageous/feminine heroes, incredible situations, indescribably eerie unspeakable monsters, and enormous treasure troves will appeal to anyone with a broad outlook and a healthy sense of humor.
