Joe the Barbarian

Joe Manson is not a hero. He is just a thirteen-year-old boy with a pet rat named Jack, a mother struggling to provide for the family, and diabetes, which guarantees him an insulin coma if he doesn't take action in time. He also has a sketchbook, a room full of toys, and a house full of memories. He is an ordinary teenager. But that evening everything will change. Joe will find himself in an incredible world full of dangers—a world that is oddly familiar yet unlike anything else. In this mysterious new world, the stairs, hallways, and doors of his big, dark house transform into fog-covered mountains, vast spaces, and impenetrable gates on the way to uncharted lands. The toys and the pet rat also undergo a transformation. And Joe himself becomes the long-awaited hero, the savior of the Kingdom, the only one capable of defeating the King of Death and bringing back the Light. Joe has no idea whether his journey through the lands of the Kingdom is real or just hallucinations caused by hypoglycemic shock. The only thing he is sure of is that the mission must be accomplished, otherwise Joe the Barbarian's first adventure will be his last.
