When Harald became king and seized all of Norway, the desire to escape from harsh rule, the thirst for adventure, and the craving for wealth compelled the bravest Vikings to leave their homeland and set sail. The wind carried the ships to uncharted islands. In search of hospitable lands, our heroes moved from one shore to another. Thus, settlements appeared in Iceland, Greenland, and America.
The nights in Iceland are long. The household gathered around the fire, closer to warmth and light. The head of the family told tales of the kings of Norway, of adventures, distant lands, and bloody battles. People knew and loved these stories, and the skalds composed sagas about them and sang to the sounds of the harp. Over time, they were recorded on parchment, and they have survived to this day...
