We present to the readers a book that outlines the most important, fundamental principles of Jungian psychology. In 1959, the director of the publishing house «Eldus Books», inspired by the idea of spreading Jung's teachings to the widest possible audience, approached the author with a proposal to write a book aimed at the general reader. Two years later, the idea was realized in the joint work of Jung and his closest associates titled «Man and His Symbols». Jung himself developed the main concept and wrote the main part of the book – «Approaching the Unconscious», in which he outlined the role of the unconscious and dreams in human life and introduced the reader to the concept of the archetype. In the next part, Joseph L. Henderson, one of the most prominent followers of Jung on the American continent, outlined the principle of the emergence of archetypal models in ancient mythology and rituals. The section dedicated to the description of the individuation process – the most important part of Jungian teaching, was entrusted by Jung to his closest friend and associate – Marie-Louise von Franz. The sections on symbolism in visual arts and symbols in individual analysis were written by the author's colleagues from the Zurich Jungian circle – Jolanda Jacobi and Aniela Jaffé.
