This book is a guide for psychotherapists on studying the author's holistic approach to overcoming the consequences of childhood trauma, which is often the basis of complex PTSD. The solutions proposed by the author can greatly assist therapists in addressing developmental delays that arise in clients during childhood under the traumatic care of abusive and/or neglectful parents or other caregivers.
The author's approach is based on the study and restoration of six key areas of underdeveloped innate intelligence. These areas are: social, behavioral, cognitive, emotional, somatic, and spiritual. Those who have experienced childhood trauma gradually come to realize that their symptoms — are a normal reaction of a child to abnormal upbringing conditions, steeped in violence, neglect, danger, and lack of love. The approach based on vulnerable self-disclosure helps clients overcome internal shame, master self-help techniques, and increase motivation for healing changes.
Therapists will learn how to help clients see that in childhood they were powerless to protect themselves from the traumatic impact of those around them. But now, with the support and compassion of the therapist, they can begin to perceive their long-standing problems differently. As clients' self-compassion is revived, they learn to confront the malicious hatred of their inner critic and to re-develop the previously suppressed kindness towards themselves, which contributes to healing from trauma.
