The noble gentleman Yuki Shinjuuro – an amateur detective whom the police turn to for help whenever they encounter an incredibly complex and seemingly unsolvable case – is faced with new intriguing mysteries. For example, a mysterious double murder at the wedding of a martial arts master's son, the mysterious disappearance of a young maid during a thunderstorm at night, or the inexplicable death of the owner of a brothel on the railway, which was attempted to be passed off as suicide.
Originally published as separate stories in periodical magazines, "Detective Stories of the Meiji Era" gained popularity among the public and has since become the basis for two television series, manga, and anime.
