Feathers

A phantasmagorical story of friendship between a Jerusalem boy born into a religious family shortly before the proclamation of the State of Israel and an adult eccentric dreamer who envisions saving humanity from hunger through his created "food army" and gradually descends into madness. Almost as colorful are the other friends of this unusual child: a couple of enthusiastic admirers of Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph, an old gravedigger, fervent vegans, convinced Esperanto speakers, and other characters. The narrative begins and ends on the African shore of the Suez Canal, where the lyrical hero finds himself immediately after the October War of 1973, known in Israel as the Yom Kippur War, but the main events of the novel unfold in Jerusalem in the early fifties. And since many plotlines have their roots in the distant past, the reader has the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Jerusalem in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, touching on some important nodes of modern Jewish history.
