Healing Dream and Ritual. Ancient Incubation and Modern Psychotherapy

K. A. Meyer explores the ancient Greek understanding of dreams, antique incubation, and accompanying rituals. In this significantly expanded version of his classic work, «Ancient Incubation and Modern Psychotherapy», Meyer compares the divine medicine of Asclepius with our own modern psychotherapeutic approaches to dreaming. He suggests searching for a healing remedy at the very foundation of illness, which is critically important for both medicine and psychology. By helping us recognize the transpersonal aspects of illness, dreaming points to a transcendent path to healing. Professor K. A. Meyer practiced as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in Switzerland since 1936. One of the founders of the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich, he served as its president until 1957. He also held the position (successor to C. G. Jung) of honorary professor of psychology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Dr. Meyer was one of the founders of the clinic and research center of Jungian psychology in Zurich in 1964. His books have made a unique contribution to the understanding and practice of modern psychotherapy.
