Jung's seminars, in which he explains his psychological ideas and analytical methods, as well as views on society, personality, religion, history, and much more, were previously known to few even among Jung's followers. The number of places in the sessions was limited, and the seminar notes, made on a mimeograph and prepared by the seminar participants, were not published but distributed privately among a limited circle of subscribers. The volumes of the Seminar Records (as they were actually called) in special Jungian libraries were not issued to readers without the analyst's permission. References to the Records can be found in Jungian publications, but quotes are rarely provided. Although this restrictive policy was introduced with Jung's consent, he eventually agreed to include the Seminar Records in the list of published works.
