Torah with Haftarot

The new translation of the Torah into Russian presented to you is unique. This edition not only represents the Masoretic text of the Pentateuch in modern literary Russian for the first time to Russian-speaking readers, but also allows for its perception in the general context of world culture. The book also includes haftarot – excerpts from the Books of the Prophets, which are read immediately after the weekly portion or festive excerpt from the Torah on Saturdays, holidays, and fast days. While carefully preserving the text of the original and its understanding by Jewish tradition, the translators nevertheless rejected the unjustified use of archaisms, literal translations of Hebrew idioms, and grammatical constructions foreign to modern Russian. In complex passages, the translation follows classic Jewish interpretations, primarily Rashi's commentary.
