The Human Race. Solidarity with the Non-Human People

What makes people human? As science and technology challenge the boundaries between life and non-life, between the organic and the inorganic, this old question becomes extraordinarily timely. Timothy Morton, a prominent representative of object-oriented philosophy, invites us to view this philosophical question as a deeply political one. In our relationships with non-human beings, we define the fate of our humanity. Becoming human, argues Morton, actually means building relationships of solidarity with non-human beings for a broader understanding of reality that simultaneously includes and transcends the concept of species.
