The Mystery of the Royal Coin

Fergus Hume (Ferguson Wright Hume, 1859–1932) was one of the pioneers of the detective genre. His most famous book "The Mystery of a Hansom Cab" inspired A. Conan Doyle to write the Sherlock Holmes novel "A Study in Scarlet." He was born in England, studied law in New Zealand, then moved to Australia, traveled widely, and wrote about one hundred and forty novels.

Daisy Kent receives an anonymous threatening letter the day before her engagement is announced, and the next day the girl is found stabbed with a dagger in a church cemetery. The governess Anna Denham is accused of the crime out of jealousy. But Anna suddenly disappears, and proving her guilt – as well as her innocence – becomes extremely difficult; on top of that, a mysterious "Scarlet Cross" is involved in the case...

Daisy's fiancé – Giles Ware – takes on the challenge of solving this mystery.
