Communal Apartment

Autumn 1950. In one of the rooms of a communal apartment in Moscow, the former convict Matvey Zubkov dies from an overdose of sleeping pills. Behind the thin partitions, seven of his neighbors hear groans, wheezing, and the dying scratch of nails. But no one comes to help.
In the morning, the police will say - he died quietly, in his sleep. From natural causes.

Disguising himself as a simple drunk storekeeper, investigator Arkady Nikitin moves in to take the place of the deceased. Everyone believes he is a nobody. An empty space.

Soon, the investigator realizes that behind every door lies its own truth. Each resident has seen something, knows something. But everyone is silent.

Nikitin, wearing the guise of a storekeeper, cannot conduct interrogations, demand, or threaten. He can only look into eyes filled with lies and wait for one of the neighbors to make a mistake. But his wife Varya and daughter Masha cannot wait.
BECAUSE THEY HAVE BECOME BAIT IN A CAGE WITH WOLVES.
