Jacaranda

Milan has never been to Rwanda; he is an ordinary French teenager who knows almost nothing about the country where his mother is from and the horrors she fled from. But one day, a boy appears at their doorstep with a terrible scar crossing his head. From that day on, Milan's life will change, as will he—Milan will begin a difficult, long, and tangled journey to his roots, to his family. And the symbol of this road will be an old tree—a beautiful jacaranda, which has seen everything that people have tried to forget.
In his novel, Gaël Fay tells the story of four generations, unfolding before the reader the tragic picture of the country's past, which, despite everything, strives for dialogue and forgiveness. This is a novel about how sometimes memory is pain, and sometimes it is a path to healing. And the embodiment of memory is the jacaranda, a symbol of rootedness and at the same time fragility.
