The book is a collection of the best, still relevant academic and journalistic works of the author over 62 years of his creative activity. It focuses on Islam and the Muslim world, including the Iranian anti-Shah revolution, the war in Afghanistan, the situation in South Arabia, the countries of the Persian Gulf, the 'Arab Spring', during which the author was a participant or witness to events. Personal experience allowed writing about post-colonial Africa, the defeat of the USA in Vietnam, and the outstanding personalities of an era torn in two — into the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.
