The book is in a somewhat unusual genre — it is a review of memoirs and partly interviews with famous Russian chemists. The authors of the memoirs wrote about their choice of life path, their views on scientific work and science in general, about their colleagues and their human qualities, about the Academy of Sciences and the elections of its members. The attitude captured in the memoirs and interviews towards the past of the country is almost different for everyone, but thoughts about their science, about chemistry, are very similar. One can also read about foreign trips and how and where the memoir compilers relaxed.
