"Room" (1971), Hubert Selby’s second novel, was not properly appreciated by critics. The author himself claimed that this book is the most painful he has ever written and admitted that he could not bring himself to reread it for two decades. However, time has put everything in its place, and new reviews of the "prison novel" have given the author his due.
