Cats of Shinjuku

A gentle and slightly sad novel about people, cats, and an accidental meeting that changes a life.

Beginning screenwriter Yama, wandering the streets of Shinjuku, finds an unusual bar. It smells like yakitori, blues plays on the speakers, and the regulars eagerly argue about which local cat will next appear at the kitchen window.

In this cramped, noisy, and cozy place, Yama meets Yume — a silent waitress who finds it much easier to be among cats than people. Amidst the night lights of the big city, Yama and Yume's relationship develops shyly and slowly, offering them a fragile hope — for friendship, for love, and for the possibility that their small world can be saved.
